I have always enjoyed singing, but was never confident enough in my voice to sing in public or when other people were around. This year, I decided to take action and to improve my voice once and for all!
I have a soft voice and have issues with breathing when I sing. I wanted to improve my skills so that I would be confident enough to sing and be proud of my voice. In my search for vocal teachers and lessons, I came across Roger Love's new program called the Roger Love Singing Academy.
If you don't know who Roger Love is, he is a celebrity voice coach for singers such as Selena Gomez, John Mayer, and the cast of Glee! I was excited to work with a vocal coach who was not only charismatic, but his teachings resonated with me. Roger helps you practice and understand the basics (the foundation of singing) before moving on to vocal coaching and advanced techniques.
This 10-week online course is designed to enhance and improve your voice with continued practice. Each day for the past three weeks, I have been practicing Roger's lessons. I've outlined my steps below in hopes that those of you considering Roger Love's Singing Academy will see the difference from practice and patience.
In addition to the weekly lessons, there are invaluable extras such as the exercise studio, with daily vocal warm-up exercises and other helpful bonuses.
Weeks 1-3
Roger introduces us to diaphragmatic breathing and the inner workings of our vocal chords and larynx. He also explains the chest, middle, and head voice, and provides lessons to practice each type of voice while singing.
Weeks 4-6
This is when Roger introduces vibrato, and provides guidance as well as lessons on how to improve vibrato. He builds on your understanding and expands your vocal practice by using the lessons you learn in weeks 1-3 and merging them with the lessons in weeks 4-6. This concept of continuing to build upon the foundation that Roger helps you set in the first three weeks helped to strengthen my voice to the point where I was shocked at how much better I sounded!
As a part of Roger's lessons, there are activities called Love Notes where you practice chest, middle, and head voice, along with vibrato, to music that we know and love. This activity is designed with the intent on getting your voice to the next level. You have to check it out to truly understand how much work was put into designing these vocal activities!
Weeks 7-10
Roger continues with lessons on vibrato, and has Love Notes for various kinds of music, such as pop and rock. This continued expansion has not only helped with my transition from chest to head voice, but I sound much better than where I was at during week one.
He also explains what to do so that you never lose your voice again. I have this problem with both singing and talking. Once I reached the 10th week of lessons, I started over from weeks 1-10 and went through all of the exercises repeatedly. By doing so, I've strengthened my vocal transition from chest, middle, to head voice, and I can actually start to sing vibrato!
In addition to the weekly vocal lessons, the singing academy also has bonus videos with relevant topics to guide you to a better voice, such as eliminating pitch problems.
I have a stronger, more confident voice thanks to Roger Love's Singing Academy. He is truly an expert on singing and I have been fortunate enough to learn from someone who works with the best in the industry. Whether you want to improve your singing for professional reasons, or just want to sing better in church choirs or for leisure, I would highly recommend Roger Love's program.
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
That is awesome that it is an online course.
ReplyDeleteThis is cool, my son loves singing. I will have to check this out.
ReplyDeleteI would so love to do this! I love to sing but, just like you am not confident enough to sing around people. Although I used to all the time when I was younger no matter who was around. I blame my ex-husband for giving me my self-conscious issues, since he would always say something when I did sing...almost 6 years later I'm still not confident enough to sing in front of my bf of those 6 years...even though he says I have a nice voice that just needs trained. Will be checking this out.
