This is usually the time of the year when I reflect on how far I've gotten on my journey from my humble beginnings. Blogging started as a passion of mine after I was laid off from my first full-time job out of college. I've always enjoyed writing and expressing myself to the world, even when the world refused to listen to me. I also found that I enjoyed writing about products and talking about them via social media. Eventually, my path became one filled with fashion, health, and beauty.

I have to admit, I continue to blog as my passion and hobby. I work a full-time job to pay off my college debt and bills, but my heart is with blogging, marketing, and social media. I hope that in 2014 I can continue my hobbies by creating videos on Youtube that will interest you. I love comedy, so you have been warned that I will have a heap of comedic and informative videos for you.

All in all, it has been one hectic year. I found a new job in a management role, forked up tons of money for my dog's surgery, moved to a new location where I was finally able to sleep (no footsteps above me or loud neighbors!), and my brother came out of a coma. Not all in that order, but you get the picture.

Life circumstances have, for some reason, always been out of my control. There is always something happening or going on, even when I yearn for peace and quiet. I've learned that just because I can't control my circumstances, it doesn't mean I don't have control over my actions and words.

As I reflect on where my path will lead me, I hope you have a wonderful time with your loved ones, or you are able to enjoy some rest and relaxation.

Tips for Dizziness, Low Energy, or Exhaustion

Do you often feel tired, low on energy, or dizzy? I recently found out that my iron levels were incredibly low. After bugging my doctors for an entire year, one of them finally had blood tests performed, which revealed low levels of iron and B12. One of my simple health issues was due to low iron and B12! The solution? I went to a drugstore, purchased iron, B12, and fish oil supplements, and have taken them everyday for one month.

The trick to taking iron supplements is to take the pill with vitamin C rich foods. The vitamin C will help your body absorb more of the iron. Orange juice will also work. Another trick I have read is to cook using iron skillets or pans. Women are more likely to have low iron because of that cycle each month. 

These were just brief tips, but I hope they were helpful to you!

Things to Do in Kauai

During the second half of our trip to Kauai, we decided to explore the south shore and went sightseeing. Along the way, we checked out the Spouting Horn. This top picture was taken in the same area as the Spouting Horn's location.

We went during a time when the Spouting Horn was not as large as it can get, but still enjoyed the uniqueness of it. The Spouting Horn does what its name suggests - spouts water high up into the air.

Kauai is known as the garden isle because of the lush greens, trees, and plants that lend itself well to an outdoors themed place. In addition to the wonderful beaches, Kauai offers beautiful simplicity to residents and tourists.

Kauai has only one road that encompasses the island in a U-shape. While traveling to our next destination, we saw a lot of vines and trees that were absolutely stunning.

We stayed in Kapaa, Kauai, which is known as the coconut coast. I would recommend getting yourself a nice refreshing coconut drink. This one is from a small shop right before the road leading to Waimea Canyon.

Surprisingly, we did not find as many coconut or fruit drinks shops and stands as we thought we would find on this island. We stayed in Kapaa and the beaches were amazing! Grab yourself a coconut drink and head to the beach for a day of fun in the sun.

If you would like ideas for exploring Kauai, here are some things we did:

Also, a fair warning for dining out in Kauai. The food prices there are absolutely off the charts. I live in one of the most expensive places (skyhigh rent, more than average priced meals, etc.) in this country, and I had sticker shock with the food prices. Prices reflect the fresh, local ingredients, but it can also indicate the need to charge people more since there are always tourists there.

Your best bet is to shop for groceries at Walmart, Costco, or Safeway and cook some of your meals while on vacation. This will allow you to explore more activities on the island!

TRAVELING AROUND THE ISLAND

We decided to rent an economy car, which was reliable and we were able to explore much of the island in a matter of five days. Keep in mind that it rains often in Kauai, and can rain everyday. However, the rain comes and goes and it does not rain the entire day. Kauai will also have flash flood warnings when there is a storm, so be prepared.

OTHER TIPS:

Use sunscreen at least every 1.5 to 2 hours. I did and still came back sunburnt. That sun and temperature is harsh on your skin.

There are roosters everywhere on this island, and are loud at all hours of the day. Be sure you don't run any over as they can and will get in the way of where you need to go. They are a protected species on the island.

Bring beach towels with you, even if you don't plan to go to the beach. You never know if you might spot a good beach to spend some time.

My Trip to Kauai Hawaii

I returned a few days ago from the first vacation (in my life) to Kauai. Time has gone by so quickly, with working, putting myself through college, graduate school, and now moving into the early to mid stages of my career. Vacations are hard to come by, so this was a rare chance for me to get off the grid and relax on the garden isle.

I can be a very tense flyer, but luckily I brought my assortment of electronics and earphones to drone out the noise of kids and crying babies. The nervous energies and crying tend to exacerbate my tension.

Tip for anyone who easily gets cold: do not book your seats at or near the exit rows.

My first view of the oceanfront condo I stayed in was incredible.

We were on the third floor of the Wailua Bay View Condos

A storm hit the island during our first two days in Kauai, so we lost two days of outdoor activities. The thunder and lightning combined with strong winds and flash flood warnings were very intense.

Days 1 and 2 in Kauai were spent in our condo with good food from the island. Our first stop was Korean BBQ, a great place for Korean and Hawaiian food. Their chicken katsu was exceptionally fresh and had a nice crunchy outer layer.

Once the storm settled, I captured an amazing view of the sunrise:

Donate to Charities and Local Groups in Need

As the holiday season is approaching, it's time to give thanks to what we have and to celebrate the year's end with family and friends. Many of us have all been down on our luck at some point and were able to get through it with hard work and the kindness and compassion of others. This holiday season, give what you can, whether to a charity, family, or local pet shelters that are scraping by to survive. 

If you have clothes you don't wear anymore, please consider donating them to a family in need. How about old towels? The dogs and cats in need of homes at the shelter sure could use a few towels to keep them warm. Food banks are also seeing a significant increase in patrons who are in need of pantry items. 

I am at a point in my life where I don't need to constantly worry about how to pay for groceries or how to pay my bills. It's not perfect, but with hard work and the help of others, I've been able to reach this point in my life. My goal this year is to donate what I can to pet shelters, foster children organizations, food banks, and clothing/food drives.

I don't believe that anyone has the right to freeload and benefit off of another person's hard work, but I know how it feels to be at the bottom, wondering how to feed myself and pay rent at the same time. I have been helped along the way, without any expectation of me paying these kind-hearted people back. I have since been paying it forward, and spreading the charitable contributions to hopefully make someone's day a little better.

If you can donate, even a small amount, it would make a world of difference, perhaps to a hungry child, abused or neglected dog or cat, foster kids who may not have families to celebrate with, or someone down and out due to changing life circumstance. 

Be compassionate not only this season, but year-round. It's time for people to take care of people, and for us to improve our society by directly helping those in need. We should not rely solely on the government to change our lives for the better.
